Mishra, who came to Mumbai to attend her sister’s engagement, was killed by a BMW in a hit-and-run accident with the son of a Shiv Sena leader.
From the police account, Kaveri Nakva and her husband Pradik were on a two-wheeler; Mihir Shah was driving the BMW car that hit their vehicle and dragged Kaveri 1. 5 kilometers before stopping. Mihir, then planning to strangulate Kaveri, dragged her out from under the car and put her on the road, and his driver drove over the body and fled away from the spot.
The authorities have arrested Rajesh Shah, Mihir’s father, for perpetrating fraud and tampering with the evidence; meanwhile, Mihir is still absconding. An ‘alert’ has also been initiated to ensure he does not travel out of this state.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also disapproved of the incident, and, to speak diplomatically, no one is safe whether he belongs to a political party. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray, who has been actively raising his voice against crimes against women, wanted the police to nab the accused as soon as possible and punish the culprits.
A comparison has been made with the Pune Porsche hit-and-run case, which has made people urgently need to address such incidents and bring the guilty from the high-profile repetition to justice.
