Tragic suicide uncovers alleged sexual harassment at Visakhapatnam college

A disquieting news story of a high school student who committed suicide by jumping from a college building in Visakhapatnam. Her younger sister found a note, heart-ripped, written by the young girl who had been sexually abused on a college campus. Sexual harassment plays a major role in disempowering women, as evidenced by the case of Miss India 2019, which named a contestant with political connections who made threats to her to refrain from reporting to the police department. He owned compromising photos of her and threatened to share them on social media.

The missing girl was studying engineering at a polytechnic college in Vishakapatnam, and her parents received a call from the college authorities, informing them about her disappearance. Nevertheless, her family turned to every possible communication channel with the girl, but she did not react for some time. This final text message read the sister’s apology:

“I am sorry, Didi, I have to leave.”

In her short message, the teenager conveyed that she couldn’t express the reasons behind her decision since her family members wouldn’t get it. Her love, care, and sharing of her stuff drew tears. At the same time, she thanked her parents for their undying love and support, signaling the end of her chapter. She also believes that other girls might be suffering from the same problems at the college.

The local law enforcement agencies are actively probing into the matter, questioning most of the faculty and student staff. The college pinched himself and refused to support the argument that sexual harassment takes place. He said that men have restricted access to the women’s hostel.

The recent sad event of sexual harassment of female students in educational institutions has made us understand the importance of taking timely measures to combat the problem. It echoes that it is vital to ensure student safety and that students may report such issues to authorities without fear of harming their reputation.
