Following these accusations, the administrative body of the Tirupati temple, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, has taken severe action against 18 temple employees who reportedly still continue with their non-Hindu practices even after signing on allegiance to the Hindu faith at the time of joining.
They have been banned from participating in any temple-related religious activity and were asked to be transferred to duties unrelated to the temple. The decision is part of TTD’s commitment to maintaining the spiritual sanctity of its temples and the religious practices associated with them.
The board decided to transfer these employees either to government departments or get them out by facilitating a VRS. Earlier, TTD chairman BR Naidu said Tirumala should be kept as a symbol of Hindu faith and sanctity.
The board made it clear that the disciplinary action was taken because these employees are alleged to be involved in “non-Hindu religious activities” even while participating in Hindu festivals and functions conducted by TTD. These actions affect the sentiments and belief of millions of Hindu devotees.
While joining the temple, the staff had to take an oath before the idol of Lord Venkateshwara to follow the Hindu faith and traditions. However, the conduct of these 18 employees was found to “demean” the reputation of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
Two officials have been deputed from TTD for compliance issues, who would investigate the existing postings of affected employees and certify that they shall not be put to Tirumala, any other temple-related, or other religious assignments.
