Two Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders trapped in J&K gunfight with troops

There was an exchange of fire between militants and security forces in Pulwama District in Jammu and Kashmir today. During the exchange of fire, two key leaders of the Tandar Ground Opium Business and Gujrat-based banned outfits The Resistance Front, a faction of Lashkar-e-Taiba, were cornered.

Two senior operatives from the resistance front group, an affiliate of the banned Let in Pakistan, were cornered in a house they were using to evade the security forces for some time in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday.

A crackdown ensued for the operation, which started when security forces acted on the intelligence reports received about a terrorist nest in the vicinity of the Nehamas area in Pulwama. When the security forces and the police laid down a cordon and search operation, the terrorists opened fire on them, ultimately leading to the attack.

Both of the terrorists who attacked policemen involved in conducting the poll are residents of the Pulwama district in south Kashmir; their names are Raees Ahmad and Riyaz Ahmad Dar. There were pictures introducing the viewers to the house in which terrorists were located—it was in flames, and smoke rose high into the air.

The firing was continuing for quite some time until they had not informed any casualties, none from either side of the police personnel, a police official said.

Further details were awaited.

On May 7, security forces and militants exchanged fire in the Kul gam district of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the killing of two militants. Basit Dar, the TRF terrorist who worked for the Resistance Front and was backed by the Lashkar group, was also among those martyred during the firing encounters.
