One killed, 9 injured in Bihar bridge collapse.
A portion of an under-construction bridge collapsed in Bihar’s Supaul district early on Friday, claiming one life and leaving nine others injured. The 10.2 km bridge is being built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) across the Koshi River between Bheja in Madhubani and Bakaur in Supaul.
As per NHAI Regional Officer YB Singh, 10 labourers were trapped under debris after the accident. One person succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital, while the remaining nine were rescued with minor injuries.
Singh stated adequate compensation is being arranged for victims and their families. Experts have been roped in to investigate causes and suggest remedial steps. Senior officials have rushed to the site.
Deputy CM and roads construction minister Vijay Kumar Sinha termed it “very tragic”. He said an inquiry was ordered and action will be taken against those responsible. The government will ensure adequate relief for families, Sinha assured.
He was in touch with NHAI and district magistrate Kaushal Kumar, who had also reached the spot. Piers 153 and 154 of the total 171 collapsed in the mishap, according to officials overseeing the construction of the key river bridge.
