University students arrested for attempted car theft in Noida

In a bizarre twist, the plot thickened when two university students conspired to help a friend impress his girlfriend by stealing a brand-new car from a showroom in Greater Noida. The three are accused of conspiring to carry out the heist instead of borrowing a vehicle. The incident took place last month, but details have come out only now.

Police said the car theft plot was masterminded by suspects identified as Shrey, Aniket Nagar, and Deepanshu Bhati. The police have not specified, however, which of the two students came up with the idea first to help out their friend.

The plan was executed on September 26, as the two suspects asked for a Hyundai Venue test drive at a car bazaar in Greater Noida. Wearing helmets, they stood near the exit gate as the car dealer drove the vehicle out of the parking lot. One suspect entered the driver’s seat, and his accomplice sat behind him. The car whizzed off, with surveillance footage showing it before the feed suddenly snapped.

The suspects, according to the police, later pushed the car dealer out of the vehicle and escaped. The police retrieved footage from over 100 CCTV cameras and conducted activities in the area for intelligence gathering regarding the accused’s whereabouts.

The stolen car was quite popular due to its tinted windows and the fact that it had ‘Nagar’ written on its body. The car’s recovery led to the trio’s arrest, while an investigation is still underway.
