US readout hints at Modi’s upcoming US visit, omits Bangladesh trip

This being an obvious hint that Narendra Modi will visit the USA in September, Joe Biden and the prime minister talked of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) sessions scheduled to take place in New York next month.

This will be a significant one after PM Modi’s recent visits to Russia and Ukraine and before the US presidential elections scheduled for this November. “During the conversation with PM Modi, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., discussed the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Poland and Ukraine and the United Nations General Assembly meetings in September, – said the White House.

PM Modi may participate in the UN General Assembly High-Level Week, which begins with ‘Summit of the Future’ on September 22-23 this year. According to the list of expected speakers for the year‘s ‘General Debate,’ the prime minister is slated to address the UNGA on the 26th of September. It will be Biden’s final speech as the US President to the UN. September 22 also sees a mega Indian community event by PM Modi in New York.

According to an Indian statement, both the leaders conveyed the same feelings about the situation in Bangladesh. “They stressed on the return of law and order and safety and security of the minorities, especially Hindus in Bangladesh,”  the Indian statement said.

The readout with the US did not include anything about Bangladesh, however.

“In the spotlighting of the situation in Ukraine, PM Modi informed President Biden of his recent visit to Ukraine and reiterated India’s long-held stance that supports dialogue and diplomacy, fully supporting the restoration of peace and stability as soon as possible,” the Indian statement reads.
