Uttar Pradesh CM condemns violence in West Bengal’s Ram Navami clashes

Tensions escalated between Uttar Pradesh’s CM Yogi Adityanath and West Bengal’s Ms Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, after violent clashes on Ram Navami day in Murshidabad marred the peaceful celebrations. Adityanath decried the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for harassing the awareness program sponsors and their adherents to the Hindu faith.

Indeed, in a brutal statement, Adityanath claimed that while in BJP-governed states, the procession of lord Ram was done without any violence, it was the TMC government in West Bengal who was the one organizing the attacks, which ruined the whole festival.

He stressed the importance of the rule of law and its role in efficient governance. At the same time, he praised the centre-right parties of the BJP’s national unity government, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for improving security across the country.

Banerjee’s counter-attack followed her accusations that the skirmishes resulted from the pre-meditated moves of the BJP. The party was accused of being responsible for these clashes. At the same time, the Union Minister divulged that the position of DIG of Murshidabad has been vacant since a day before Ram Navami and attributed this to their ulterior motives. BJP leaders accused the TMC of providing a “free hand” to the attackers by using a slogan that strengthened and fueled violence.

During the Ram Navami procession clashes, four people incurred injuries of various extents. The situation, which already was very tense, has further raised the political tempo in the state of West Bengal, which is to go to the polls very soon. Both sides allege one another with the exchange of accusations and simultaneously demand an inquiry into the tragedy.
