Kangana Ranaut faces condemnation, legal threat over Sonia Gandhi remark.
BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is facing backlash from the Congress over remarks alleging funds meant for Himachal Pradesh were diverted to Sonia Gandhi.
Vikramaditya Singh, Congress’ state unit chief, warned Ranaut to withdraw the statement or face legal action. He said there was no evidence of even Re 1 being diverted and the allegation was defamatory to Sonia Gandhi’s stature.
Singh slammed Ranaut’s “intellectual bankruptcy” and said she had been cautioned before over sensitive remarks. Audits show central assistance is properly utilized, he added.
Ranaut had launched a membership drive attacking the Congress government. She alleged disasters had set the state back and funds released by the center reached a “Sonia Relief Fund”.
The remarks also took a dig at Singh. As Himachal battles a financial crisis due to climate disasters, the CM and ministers took a pay cut.
The state received Rs. 200 crore and Rs. 11,500 crore from the center. Meanwhile, Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ is embroiled in a court battle over representations of the 1975 turmoil.
Her comments have sparked a sharp reaction from the opposition. The Congress has demanded an apology or warned of criminal defamation proceedings.
