Vinesh Phogat’s Paris olympics disqualification sparks outrage

The Indian Olympic contingent is in shock as star wrestler Vinesh Phogat gets herself disqualified in the just-concluded Paris Olympics on the eve of her gold medal clash.

During the weigh-in conducted by United World Wrestling (UWW) officials, Phogat, who is in the 50kg category, was found to be one hundred grams over the allowable weight. This technical violation caused her to be disqualified from the competition as soon as she was caught.

Mandaviya said that the IOA has formally protested this decision to the IOC. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised IOA President PT Usha, who is in Paris, to take appropriate action in the matter.

The sports minister also defended the government’s support for Phogat, mentioning a large amount of money and a dedicated team to help the wrestler.

However, the members of the opposition INDIA bloc were not convinced by the minister for external affairs’ statement and the condemnable incident, and they walked out of the Lok Sabha demanding more clarification about the incident.

Due to the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat, there is great controversy in India, with people doubting the management of the team and concerned about the weight problem. The Congress MP Selja slammed the center and said that the authorities have not cared for the diet of the athletes.

At the same time, Deepender Hooda, another leader from the Congress, demanded a reconsideration of the decision, which shattered Phogat’s golden dreams.

The nation pinned a lot on Vinesh Phogat, who created history when she made it to the final in her category to become the first Indian woman wrestler to do so. She has been disqualified, and that is on a technicality, and the whole of the country is still in shock and disbelief, believing that she is a true champion by all means.
