Vinesh Phogat’s roaring performance at Paris Olympics 2024

Indian wrestler Sania, 29, has set an example of determination, which is seen in her excellent performance in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. Although she has tasted defeats in the Olympic singles events in Beijing and London, she is now on the verge of clinching her maiden Olympic medal.

Phogat has come out as a real-life fighter who recently qualified for the semi-finals. She started with a stunning upset of the top-ranked and Olympic gold medalist, Yui Susaki of Japan, in the women’s 50kg freestyle round of 16 bouts. The wrestler from Japan was fairly strong, with only one loss and 82 wins in his bouts. Unfortunately for him, he did not stand a chance with the Indians, who had a 2-3 defeat to his name.

Continuing the momentum, Vinesh Phogat tamed the soils of the challenge by the former European champion and the 2018 world championship bronze medallist of Ukraine, Liubov Ovcharova, in the quarterfinal with a nail-biting 7-5 win.

But the movie’s ability to inspire or give hope to the viewers does not end here, or at least in the wrestling ring. The headstrong wrestler was one of the three wrestlers who spearheaded the protest of Bajrang Punia last year.

Sakshi Malik and herself against WFI’s then-president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for sexually assaulting women wrestlers. As Vinesh Phogat is on the verge of becoming the next legend of Indian sports, the country waits for her semi-final bout, which she will be chasing for a historic medal.
