Netizens condemned the attack and said the police harassed the two men. Two men were beaten up by the police in Uttar Pradesh, a video of which has gone viral. The incident took place in Bansi tehsil of Siddharthnagar in the state. According to News18, two constables at Bansi police station, Satyavedi Singh and Adnan Sheikh, are the ones beating up the two men.
The motive behind the police’s actions, however, is not known. In the video, at one point, a policeman is kicking one man while holding him by the collar. On seeing this, another man intervenes, but two police officers slap and beat him around while still having the former by the collar.
Netizens condemned the attack after seeing the video. The two men were harassed by police, according to them. It was common to see Uttar Pradesh police officers beat people, said one netizen.
Earlier this year, there was a video showing traffic police personnel beating two men on the outskirts of Hyderabad in Chevella. The video went viral on social media after it was posted online. In the video, a traffic police inspector identified as Venkatesham and a constable, J Srinu, were seen without provocation beating the men.
The video showed Inspector Venkatesham approaching three men along the roadside. Without any apparent motive, he was seen to grab the collar of one of the men and beat him up vigorously. Constable Srinu also arrived on the scene, and he took his cue from the inspector beating up the other man in that group. Keshav, yet another officer standing there, did not say a word.
