Sudha Murty takes the Rajya Sabha oath of office

Renowned writer and philanthropist Sudha Murty was sworn in as an MP in Delhi on International Women’s Day.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar administered the oath to Murty, and their husband, Narayana Murty and Piyush Goyal were in attendance.

President Droupadi Murmu nominated Sudha Murty to the Upper House on March 8. PM Modi praised her inspiring social work.

A trailblazer as TATA’s first female engineer, she has numerous literary works and helped countless through her charities.

Following the ceremony, Murty said she feels honoured, but the responsibility is huge. She does not see herself as a politician.

Sudha Murty, who was recognized with Padma awards, retired as Infosys Foundation chair but remained a role model for her contributions.

Her daughter Akshata is married to UK PM Rishi Sunak, while Sudha praised India’s women on her nomination.

As a renowned author and philanthropist, Sudha Murty’s nomination was welcomed by all at a meaningful time.

She will surely make her presence felt through empowering voices as an Upper House member.
