Wine shop owner link between mastermind and shooter in Baba Siddique case

Mumbai Police has arrested the 11th accused and is likely to have assisted alleged mastermind Mohammed Zeeshan Akhtar, who is still on the run with logistical and financial support.

He had provided logistical and financial support to Mohammed Zeeshan Akhtar, who is absconding and suspected of masterminding the murder of an NCP politician, police said.

His role in the crime came to the fore during the interrogation of other accused in custody, police said. He had participated in the planning and execution of the murder, police said.

Police say this could be the breakthrough in the case as he is an essential link between Gurmail Singh, one of the shooters in custody, and Akhtar, who, in turn, is the common link between the shooters and murder conspirators.

Police said on June 7, Akhtar was released from Jalandhar jail, where he was serving a prison term in a riots case.

Before this, Amit was also in Kaithal jail. As the former had several cases against him in Punjab’s Nakodar town, they said, he decided to set his base at Kaithal in Haryana.

Police said a mutual friend of Gurmail and Amit, who stay close to each other, put them in contact with Akhtar. They added that money received in Amit’s bank account would be handed over to Akhtar.

Money went into the bank accounts of several alleged in the case, but from different people during the investigation by police.

They said that in the case of Akhtar, police suspect Amit of having given monetary support. Amit received Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh from the account of a nationalized bank in eight installments to Akhtar.
