In the wee hours of Sunday, a woman was reportedly raped by an unknown biker who offered her a ride; a police officer disclosed this.
Later in the statement, Raman Gupta, the Additional Commissioner of Police (East Zone), disclosed that the girl, a final-year degree student at a city college, was on her way back to her Hebbagodi home after attending a party in Koramangala.
‘The man who offered her a lift assaulted her and raped her’, Gupta said, ‘a case has been registered, investigation is on’.
Initial probes point to the fact that the woman in question was earlier in the evening at a social gathering in Koramangala. The police have singled out only one man as the target of suspicion and inquiry: the man who gave the lift.
Gupta said that he and other officers went down to the scene to interview the survivor and her family members. ”We have established five investigation teams and are carrying out other inquiries; I want to assure you that we shall arrest the culprit shortly,” he said.
