Sexual assault allegations: Ex-Karnataka CM Yediyurappa booked under POCSO

Recently, former Karnataka Chief Minister B.K. Yeddyurappa has created shock waves through the state’s political system. A blasphemy FIR has been lodged under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse Act, accusing the veteran BJP leader of committing heinous acts against a minor.

According to an FIR lodged at the Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru, the alleged incident took place on February 2 when the victim was allegedly unaware when she sought Yeddyurappa’s intervention in another case of sexual assault in the case of his mother. Shortly after that, Yeddyurappa entered the minor into a separate room, closed the door, and apologized to her within five minutes – touching the girl’s private parts, the complaint said, indecently assaulting her. As the sordid details of the FIR came to light, a shroud of disbelief hung over the state politics.

Yeddyurappa, the BJP veteran and former chief minister, is now at the center of a storm that threatens to destroy his longstanding reputation. So far, neither Yeddyurappa nor his family has responded to the serious allegations, leaving the public with an uncomfortable silence. Meanwhile, police sources have confirmed that they diligently investigate the case and leave no stone unturned for justice.

The incident has reignited the debate on child protection and the issue of sexual violence that is widespread in Indian society. As the wheels of justice turn, everyone’s eyes are on this high-profile case, which could profoundly impact the broader political and social discourse on security and vulnerabilities.

In a country that prides itself on its democratic values and commitment to the rule of law, the charges against Yeddyurappa are a stark reminder that no one is above the law, irrespective of size or influence, when in the case of crimes against children.

As the investigation continues, the people of Karnataka, and indeed the entire state, await answers – not just on the specific allegations but on the deeper structural issues that may have led to such alleged violations in the first place in the 1990s as well. For now, all that is certain is that this case has cast a long shadow over the nation’s political agenda, and its decision will undoubtedly shape the discourse on child safety and accountability for years to come.
