Yogi Adityanath meets PM Modi ahead of Uttar Pradesh bypolls

In what is being seen as a crucial meeting ahead of the impending by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Sunday. CM Yogi’s meeting was an unscheduled visit; he later called on BJP President JP Nadda in the evening.

This is the first meeting between the two leaders after the Lok Sabha election results came out on June 4. The meeting, which lasted over an hour, was termed a courtesy visit following Diwali, but its timing is seen as significant given that the by-polls to nine assembly seats are looming large.

Apart from meeting PM Modi, Yogi Adityanath also had a meeting with Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda. The Office of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister shared pictures of the two leaders meeting.

A video from news agency ANI showed CM Yogi leaving UP Sadan in Delhi, confirming that his visit was unscheduled. He had arrived at Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad before he traveled to New Delhi amidst speculations of meeting PM Modi at 5 PM.

Nine assembly constituencies—five currently held by the BJP-led NDA and four by the Samajwadi Party—will hold byelections on November 13. These include the seats of Katehari, Ambedkarnagar; Karhal, Mainpuri; Milkipur, Ayodhya; Meerapur, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad; Majhawan, Mirzapur, Sisamau, Kanpur Nagar, Khair, Aligarh, Phulpur, Prayagraj, and Kundarki, Moradabad.
