The Supreme Court had earlier expressed doubts about the concept of ‘bulldozer justice’ and wanted to know how a building can be destroyed just because it belongs to an accused, a convict, or an undertrial.

Yogi Adityanath and Akhilesh Yadav this week exchanged barbs over the word ‘bulldozer’, following the Samajwadi Party leader’s taunt on Tuesday, which offered to redirect the heavy earthmovers that symbolize the ‘justice’ that states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party are alleged to have imposed on individuals for unlawful demolition of property owned by accused criminals after they were arrested—to
The retort came Wednesday. The machines can only be operated by a bulldozer-like capability, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister observed, adding, “The hands don’t fit everyone to operate it… requires both heart and mind.”
He also had a dig at his rival’s ‘Tipu’ nickname: “Now ‘Tipu’ is trying to become a’sultan’,” he said at a private rally in Lucknow, referring to the 18th-century King of the former Kingdom of Mysore, which the BJP has painted as a Hindu vs. Muslim battle before the Karnataka elections last year.
The Chief Minister also described it as a ‘daydream’; the 27 UP poll victory possibility of Mr. Yadav also accused his predecessor and his uncle Shivpal Yadav of having taken money early this year.
The response (to the counter) was fired within hours. On X, Mr. Yadav posted: ”If you and your bulldozer are this successful, why don’t form another party and start vying for elections carrying a bulldozer as your logo?”
”Your illusions and pride will be shattered.“ Mr. Yadav chuckled online, pinning his hopes on a defeat of Yogi Adityanath, who is considered one of the top leaders within the BJP, let alone a potential prime minister of the country. That possible elevation, however, was dismissed by Mr. Yadav.
