Remove that person from the (Samajwadi) party and send him to UP, we will treat him,” said UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi’s controversial statement which is related to Aurangze
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sharply criticized Maharashtra Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi over his statements saying Mughal emperor Aurangzeb was not a “cruel administrator” and “constructed a lot of temples”. Mr Azmi subsequently withdrew his remark in the Maharashtra assembly. He was also suspended for the entire session.
“Take that individual out of the (Samajwadi) party and send him to UP, we will treat him. The individual who is embarrassed about the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, rather than being proud and taking Aurangzeb as his role model, does he have any right to remain in our nation?” Yogi Adityanath stated in the UP assembly.
“Samajwadi Party must reply to this. On one hand, you always blame Maha Kumbh. On the other hand, you glorify an individual like Aurangzeb, who destroyed the temples of the nation. Why can’t you stop that MLA of yours? Why did you not criticize his statement?” the chief minister said.
Mr Azmi also purportedly stated the struggle between the Mughal emperor and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was one of state governance and not Hindu and Muslim. He later stated his statements had been misconstrued and he would withdraw them and apologize if feelings had been offended.
“My words have been distorted. I have expressed what historians and authors have written regarding Aurangzeb Rahmatullah Ali,” Mr Azmi stated. A zero first information report (FIR) was registered against Mr Azmi at Naupada police station in Thane. It was subsequently shifted to Marine Drive police station in Mumbai. A zero FIR is registered anywhere, to be forwarded to the concerned police station subsequently.
