In a significant development, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat are expected to hold a meeting in Gorakhpur district on Saturday. This would be their first interaction since the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections, which saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retaining power at the Center, albeit with a reduced mandate in Uttar Pradesh.
The anticipated meeting comes on the heels of Bhagwat’s recent remarks, where he emphasized that a true “sevak” (servant) should not be arrogant and should serve the people while maintaining dignity. These comments, made on June 4th after the Lok Sabha election results, had sparked considerable buzz.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP’s performance was slightly muted, as the party managed to secure 33 seats, down from 62 in 2019. The Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance, on the other hand, emerged victorious in 43 constituencies.
Bhagwat, who arrived in Gorakhpur on Wednesday, is expected to stay in the city for five days. On Thursday, he attended a karyakarta (cadre) camp and discussed the political landscape, social issues, and the Sangh’s expansion. The camp is being attended by around 280 RSS volunteers from the Kashi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, and Awadh regions.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will likely visit his home district of Gorakhpur to review the ongoing development projects and interact with state government officials.
Notably, Bhagwat had previously addressed a gathering of RSS trainees in Nagpur, where he expressed concern over the situation in Manipur and emphasized the need for priority attention.
As the political landscape evolves, the forthcoming meeting between Yogi Adityanath and Mohan Bhagwat will be closely watched, as it may provide insights into the BJP’s strategy and the party’s relationship with the RSS, its ideological mentor.
