Yunus reaches out to PM Modi, assures protection of minorities in Bangladesh

There was a surge in the attacks against the Hindus in Bangladesh after the fall of the government under Sheikh Hasina.

On Friday, PM Narendra Modi got a phone call from Bangladesh’s interim chief Muhammad Yunus, and the two discussed the current situation in Bangladesh after Hasina’s removal.

In a post on X, PM Modi said he reiterated India’s support for a “democratic, stable, peaceful, and progressive” Bangladesh, while Yunus assured him of the safety and security of Hindus and other minority communities living there.

On X, @narendramodi tweeted, “Spoke to Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser, Govt. of Bangladesh, on telephone and discussed the prevailing situation and informed him India stands for Democratic, Stable, Peaceful, and Progressive Bd. He assured the safety and security of Hindus and all other minorities in Bangladesh.”

The words from Yunus come in the recent past following incidents such as attacks on members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
