Delhi Yoginis fuse Yoga with pole dance, ballet, and travel adventures

Delhi yoginis infuse their passions into the ancient practice.

As International Yoga Day approaches, we feature three Delhi women who are innovating the age-old discipline by blending it with their eclectic interests.

Travel blogger Anahita Pangtey sees similarities between yoga and visiting new destinations. She believes both put one in unfamiliar situations to grow more comfortable with the unknown. Her retreats focus on resting body and mind through yoga in nature-rich places.

Physiotherapist Vesna Jacob combines Pilates and yoga to address different body needs. She has also explored the art of pole dancing’s vertical movements. Jacob’s ‘toolbox’ of knowledge from varied fields helps her design routines catering to each client.

Former professional ballet dancer Avantika Kochar used Ashtanga yoga to heal from career-ending injuries. Through her research, she identified parallels between ballet and yoga for upper and lower body training. Kochar now imparts the blended practice as therapeutic for all.

While celebrating Yoga Day, these women exemplify how the practice can morph innovatively yet respectfully when blended with other aligned disciplines. Their journeys offer a stimulating perspective on yoga’s enriching potential.
