Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 is likely to be celebrated on April 10-11.
As Muslims across the world enter the final stages of the holy month of Ramadan, preparations are underway to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr concluding the month of fasting.
Eid marks the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month in the Islamic calendar, whose dates depend on sightings of the new crescent moon.
This year, the moon sighting committee and Molvis predict Eid will fall on April 10-11, with Kerala celebrating a day prior on the 9th due to its unique moon sighting practices.
Ramadan began on March 11 where believers abstain from food and water from dawn to dusk, focusing on prayer, spiritual cleansing and charity. On Eid, they break their day-long fast with lavish meals and sweets.
It is a day of joy, a day of thanking Allah for health and strength during the month of fasting. People wear new clothes, visit family and friends, and exchange greetings of “Eid Mubarak”.
Traditional dishes dot the feasts, from biryani and haleem to kebabs and seviyan. Children receive money gifts as they offer elders prayers on the auspicious occasion.
Marking the end of Ramadan through community, spirituality and compassion, Eid remains a highlight of the Islamic calendar, reflecting its emphasis on gratitude and togetherness.
