Swati Dubey, a Counseling Psychologist from the Department of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences at Fortis Hospitals, Mumbai, highlighted the importance of women focusing on their mental health. Additionally, they are more prone to certain mental health conditions, such as depression, due to biological factors and life events like pregnancy and menopause. Ignoring these concerns can have far-reaching consequences, not just for the women themselves but also for their families and communities. By prioritizing mental well-being, women can lead happier and more fulfilling lives.

Dubey emphasized the need for women to seek mental health support if they experience any of the following warning signs:

  • Persistent sadness: Constant feelings of sadness or hopelessness could indicate a deeper issue that requires attention.
  • Mood swings: Noticeable shifts in mood, from extreme happiness to deep sadness or irritability, might signal underlying mental health problems.
  • Anxiety: Overwhelming feelings of fear or worry, particularly about future events, along with physical symptoms like a rapid heartbeat, should not be ignored.
  • Appetite or sleep changes: Significant changes in eating habits or sleep patterns, such as insomnia or excessive hunger, can be red flags.
  • Social withdrawal: Withdrawing from social interactions, whether abruptly or gradually, could be a sign of emotional stress or depression.
  • Fatigue and low motivation: Persistent fatigue and a lack of drive in daily activities may suggest mental health concerns.
  • Cognitive difficulties: Trouble focusing, making decisions, or remembering things can indicate a mental health issue.
  • Risky behaviors: Engaging in dangerous activities, such as substance abuse or reckless driving, may reflect a need for mental health support.
  • Unexplained physical symptoms: Recurrent physical ailments without a clear cause, like headaches, may have roots in mental health issues.

To take charge of their mental health, Dubey suggests several proactive strategies:

  • Self-care: Engaging in activities that promote well-being, such as hobbies, exercise, or relaxation techniques.
