Dermatologist cautions against salt water remedy for underarm odor.
As home remedies for sweaty underarms gain traction, dermatologist Dr Shareefa Chause urges caution. While salt possesses antibacterial qualities, dabbing it may not suit all skin types and potentially cause irritation, she informed.
Speaking to HT, Dr. Chause from Shareefa’s Skin Care Clinic explained that salt’s effect varies with each person’s sensitivities. Its usage could worsen texture or induce dryness, as well as eczema.
Stressing the bacteria-odor link, the expert recommended regular showering, dermatologist-recommended chemical-free products, and antiperspirants as better hygiene practices. She stressed that one’s sensitivities determine product suitability.
Cautioning against uninformed trends, Dr Chause advised consulting experts rather than following social media blindly. “Understand the cons before making informed choices. Rely on trusted guidance for skin suitability,” she underscored.
Dermatologists maintain hygiene plays a bigger role than quick-fixes. Proper care tailored by specialists considering skin type remains the safer route than randomness, as per Dr Chause. She counsels gauging product impact thoroughly before regular usage.
