Dermatologists examine the benefits of bananas as a haircare ingredient.
As home remedies go viral on social media, experts weigh in on the efficacy of bananas for hair health. A post by ‘thelineremedies’ highlighted its nutrients like silica for collagen production and thicker hair. Dermatologist Dr Rinky Kapoor affirmed bananas’ hydrating properties owing to vitamins A, C, B, and the minerals potassium and magnesium.
Dietician Simrat Bhui said potassium boosts blood circulation to hair follicles, aiding growth and reducing falls. Doctors acknowledge bananas’ use in hair masks.
Dr Kapoor explained customized masks using ingredients like avocado or coconut oil. “Mashing ripe banana and avocado in equal quantity, leaving for 20-30 minutes, delivers soft, silky strands,” she illustrated.
Coconut oil, too, melds well with banana’s texture-improving reputation. The suggested remedy involves mixing banana and coconut oil and waiting 30-40 minutes for hydrated, less frizzy hair.
While endorsing fruits’ advantages, including shine and moisture, doctors cautioned against overapplication. Dr Kapoor urged proper washing post-use to avoid irritation or aggravated dandruff. “Overdoing masks can damage ends with brittleness and split ends. Consult experts for suitable ways based on concerns,” she advised.
Experts validate bananas nutritionally yet emphasize balanced, need-based utilization for sustained hair health, avoiding potential drawbacks from randomness. Consultation remains key for tailored solutions.
