Despite the glitz and glamour of celebrity life, mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of fame or fortune. Khloé Kardashian recently shared her journey with anxiety, insecurity, and self-doubt as she approaches her 40s, revealing her efforts to reclaim her mental and emotional well-being while preparing to launch a new perfume line. Her candid story brings into view the importance of support in navigating life’s more difficult moments.
As Khloé recently told Bustle, the pandemic was a particular low point for her mental health, a time when her insecurities were heightened. “The pandemic really made me a recluse. It made me super socially anxious once we got back to the real world. I would question, ‘What if this failed?’ There were so many negative thoughts in my head,” she shared.
Confident by nature, Khloé admitted that personal setbacks and relationship challenges had taken a toll on her self-esteem. “I’ve always been such a confident person, but I went through some personal issues that really took a hit at my self-esteem. I didn’t realize how this perfect storm was festering,” she said.
The isolation of the pandemic amplified these feelings. “Because of the pandemic, I was left alone with my negative thoughts, which I would normally avoid by socializing with friends or having a supportive team around me,” she said. “I started being so mean to myself, and I don’t know where it came from. It made me sad to become someone who was so critical of myself,” Khloé added.
Fortunately, she had support during this challenging time. Khloé, when asked about sources of help, identified her family, especially her sister Kim. “All my siblings have been there for me. Kim has really held my hand through many dark phases. She has been a guiding light, drawing me closer to the light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
Therapy was a big part of Khloé’s road to recovery. After her trust was breached and private information from her therapy sessions was leaked to the press, she found solace in fitness. “My weight loss journey began when I was going through a divorce. I stopped trusting therapy when private information ended up in the tabloids, so I started going to the gym instead. It became my safe space,” she said.
Of course, in the process, Khloé empowered herself with her regimen. “As a byproduct, my body started changing. I loved how I felt and enjoyed challenging myself. I’ve been committed to this for over a decade now,” she said, noting the long-term journey rather than a quick fix.
Though the earlier breach in trust put Khloé off therapy for some time, she has gone back. “I do go to therapy now. I started when I was 39,” she shared of her ongoing mental health and personal growth efforts.
