Nita Ambani, Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, stole the show in elegance at a private reception hosted for US President-Elect Donald Trump ahead of his swearing-in ceremony in Washington. Her sartorial choice turned heads as she exuded grace and sophistication on the global platform.
Clad in a bespoke Kanchipuram silk saree, handwoven by National Award-winning artisan B. Krishnamoorthy, Ambani beautifully portrayed the essence of India. The saree, designed after much research, had over 100 important traditional motifs that were inspired by the spiritual and historical grandeur of Kanchipuram’s temples.
Key motifs included the Iruthalaipakshi, symbolizing Lord Vishnu, the Mayil, representing immortality and divinity, and the mythical Sorgavasal animal trails echoing the richness of Indian folklore. A modern touch came with the velvet blouse from Manish Malhotra: heavy beadwork with a built-up neckline added much to the ageless appeal of the ensemble.
Finally, a rare 200-year-old southern Indian parrot-shaped pendant studded with emeralds, rubies, diamonds, and pearls, all set in the traditional Kundan with bright red and green enamel. And it was in this beautiful ensemble that Nita Ambani celebrated Indian heritage, saluting the artisans of the country and bringing their craftsmanship to the fore.
Earlier in the day, Nita and Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, congratulated President-elect Trump on the occasion. They wished for better relations between India and the US, and a “transformative” second term for him. The Ambani couple conveyed the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries during Trump’s presidency.
The couple is expected to attend the Trump inaugural ceremony at the US Capitol on January 20th, and plans are in place to have them seated front and center with other honored guests, including Cabinet nominees and elected officials.
