North India sizzles under a severe heatwave; Temperatures soar

IMD has sounded a ‘red alert’ for many parts of northern India for the heat waves, which will prevail during the next five days. As per senior scientist of IMD Naresh Kumar, at present whole region is experiencing a temperature above normal.

The weather forecast for Rajasthan’s summer predicted that the maximum temperature would rise slightly from 45 degrees Celsius to 47 degrees Celsius. The plight is not different in neighbouring states, for instance, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. The weather department has put out red alerts in these states.

The high temperatures have also affected residents’ abilities to go about their daily activities, as many have to retreat indoors when the sun is most intense. Forecasts predict that the blazing heat will persist, with the meteorological department recording temperatures up to a scorching 47 in Sirsa, Haryana.

8° C showed that Lojane was the warmest point in the nation on Tuesday. They also noted that the extreme heat caused power demand to spike as the peak power demand in the national capital touched a record level.

Regarding the above, it must be said that ‘while North India is still in the clutch of scorching heat, going south could be somewhat a reprieve’. The South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, along with the neighboring state of Kerala, is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rains in the next two to three days, as informed by the country’s weather department.
