Viral ‘Shata Dhauta Ghrita’ skincare trend gets dermatologist review.
The DIY Ayurvedic skincare trend ‘Shata Dhauta Ghrita’ is fast gaining popularity on social media platforms. Made from repeatedly washed cow ghee, its skin benefits have intrigued netizens.
As per Dr Chaitali Deshmukh of Birla Ayurveda, ancient Ayurvedic texts mention this formulation, where ghee is washed 100 times in a copper vessel. High-quality cow ghee undergoes this rigorous purification cycle to obtain ultra-refined moisturising properties.
While amateurs follow video tutorials, brands produce this cream incorporating traditional methods. Dermatologists analyze its science from both Indian and Western perspectives.
Dr Niketa Sonavane cites limited research but concurs that ghee and copper offer hydration, antioxidants, and healing. Dr Niti Gaur affirms that ghee replenishes moisture with fatty acids and carotenoids protecting skin.
However, Dr Geetika Srivastava notes efficacy depends on copper absorption. While benefits align with ingredients’ properties, side effects and suitability cannot be ruled out for all.
Thus, the dermatological review validates Ayurveda’s nourishing principles while advising further study and caution based on individual skin types. Shata Dhauta Ghrita emerges as an indigenous moisturiser backed by traditional wisdom and modern scientific insights.
