Wamiqa Gabbi, Cover of Cosmopolitan India, November 2024 edition, looks ravishing in her silver sequin dress showcasing her quintessence. The 31-year-old star gets candid in this exclusive interview with social media trolling, her changing relationship with grief over time, and what love really means to her.
Wamiqa opens up to talk about grief because earlier she could not accept the same. She explained that sadness was unwanted kin: “I would reject it earlier. as if it’s not mine.” Much, however, changed in her thinking after the pandemic. Speaking about her breakup during this time, she said, “I have learned much about grief. You finally figure out that you don’t need to desire grief to be empathetic. You can have a peaceful life and still be compassionate.”
Wamiqa even spoke about her perception of love that keeps changing. She had even christened her Instagram ‘Premiqa’. “After the pandemic, I realised that the only thing which will stay with me is love. I think people will remember me by the way I have made them feel.” The name Premiqa was derived from a song; she said she wants to live with this meaning when she grows older-a life filled with love and also giving love to others.
Reacting to social media trolls, Wamiqa outlined that responding to negativity needs empathy. “You got on social media, and then there are just people who love bullying you. It’s important that those types of platforms get policed,” she said. She thinks making users have verified accounts can curb trolling. Negative comments used to bother her in the past, but she learned to ignore them. “I just can’t really worry about what I can’t control,” she said and signaled how well-being tops all else for her.
