Apple has joined the crowd, working on a wall-mounted display that allows users to control smart appliances and conduct video conferences with others, using AI to switch among applications. Those familiar with the project, codenamed J490, say it could be announced as early as March 2024. It will introduce a new AI platform at Apple called Apple Intelligence.
Without word from Apple to provide context for the report, it at least appears that this high-end model will start at around $1,000 when launched, depending on the specifications. A display-only model, however, is likely to be offered at a much lower price.
This would represent the potential launch of this product from the company, which is working to strengthen its presence in the highly competitive smart home market, placing it directly in contact with established rivals such as Google’s Nest Hub, Amazon’s Echo Show, and Echo Hub.
The new AI wall tablet was described as a square-shaped iPad, about the size of two iPhones, with a 6-inch screen. It will come in silver and black and be a stand-alone device, but the report said it would require an iPhone for most tasks.
