Apple is pioneering strides into uncharted territory with its radical mixed-reality Vision Pro headset. But those holding their breath for a sequel to the futuristic device may need to practice patience—and lots of it.
If notable analyst Mark Gurman’s latest product roadmap is any indication, the next iteration of the Vision Pro could be up to 18 months away. Yes, you read that right. We may not see the next generation of this groundbreaking headset until the latter half of 2026!
The Vision Pro has already garnered rave reviews as a harbinger of the future. However, it has predictably received user feedback about issues like visual strain during continuous use. However, an 18-month product cycle is unheard of in Apple’s universe. This timeline, while testing for eager fans, provides ample refinement scope.
Gurman’s insights also give little away about the nature of the upgrade. Would the next Vision Pro be a mild revamp or a drastic leap? Your guess is as good as ours at this stage. But if developers are to be believed, we could be at least four generations away from the headset’s fullest potential.
For now, the initial euphoria around the Vision Pro continues unabated, with resellers managing to sell it at astounding $5,000 premiums outside the US! But the longer Apple takes to launch an enhanced successor, the greater the risk of losing consumer mindshare to eventual competitors.
Yet, if perfecting highly complex technologies like mixed reality needs time, we’d rather wait than have another rushed product. After all, legendary creations can rarely be hurried. And the Vision Pro deserves to cement its place in that coveted league when it does launch again, even if that’s nearly two years later!
