Apple’s AI integration deals to reshape the broader landscape

In a report that can transform the package of AI, the Wall Street Journal reveals that Meta Platforms, which is the parent company of Facebook discussed the possibility of incorporating its generative AI model with the new Apple AI system for iPhones at times when social media and messaging platforms are expected to be teeming with new AI capabilities.

Apple is eyeing to integrate technology from several AI companies into its devices, and the current news appears to be a part of this plan.

Based in Cupertino, Apple is also in ongoing negotiations with Alphabet’s Google, the company’s long-standing search provider, and other AI firms, including providers currently blocked from operating in areas where OpenAI’s ChatGPT is prohibited from doing business.

In its developer conference held earlier this month, Apple came out with several AI tools across its current applications and platforms; it also announced that it would partner with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT functions into its gadgets.

The company also underlines that its AI used in products is privacy-focused. It is built with the “Privacy by Design” approach, which includes both on-device computing and cloud functions to provide these new features.

Besides the talks with Meta, a new AI company, Anthropic has been negotiating with Apple about including generative AI in Apple Intelligence, according to the information disclosed by insiders. These are still on and may sometimes involve discussions that are not formal or have not been approved.

AI companies would improve their reach in the market through greater distribution if they made successful deals. Not many details of these potential agreements are discussed, but some of the talks have involved the idea of AI firms offering paid integrations via Apple Intelligence.

For instance, search AI startup Perplexity has also been in preliminary discussion with Apple concerning its generative AI incorporation into Apple Intelligence.

Concerning the role that these AI integration discussions play in Apple’s development, efforts made by the company to set itself apart from competitors such as Microsoft or Google sought to sell privacy as a key Archimedean point might be a motivation for these discussions.
