Global smartphone shipments drop 10% in Q1 2024 amidst fierce Android competition

Global smartphone shipments falling by at least 10% as per IDC Q1 2024 data illustrate that the decline is real. The decline may result from the Android device manufacturers’ efforts to build a market share and top positions in this highly competitive business. According to the data released on Sunday, international smartphone shipments have shown roughly a 7.8% increase from the previous year to 289.4 million units, which has manifested a relatively low incremental rate.

In an astonishing move, by acquiring the first position with a market share of 20.8%, Samsung became the main phone maker. It also signifies that Apple has been replaced from its previous pole position as this leading consumer electronic company by giving place to the Apple company with a marginal of 17.3% in the Chinese smartphone market. After the company’s impressive performance in the previous quarter, in which it managed to beat Samsung to the position of the world’s first smartphone maker, sales of iPhones were predicted to fall. China brands, including Huawei and others, are countering with increased market share, whereas Apple needs to try to regain its retained leadership position.

Xiaomi, one of China’s most known smartphone manufacturers, got third in the market during Q1 with a market share of 14.1%. On the contrary, a statement that Samsung scored some success by selling over 60 million new models of their leading flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series, during that time can be noted concerning the same period.

The falling smartphone shipment volume, which all smart manufacturers are faced with, forecasts the field of competition regarding how consumers are changing their preferences. Smartphone manufacturers will help themselves keep up with ever-changing market conditions, saying ahead they will have to be creative and avant-garde.
