Google podcasts app to shut down in the US, transition to YouTube music encouraged

Google has discontinued its popular Google Podcasts app in the United States. With over 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store, the app will cease functioning from April 2. Users have been emailed about the option to export their podcast subscriptions and are encouraged to transition to YouTube Music.

Although the Google Podcasts app is still available on both the App Store and Play Store, users will no longer have access to content after the shutdown date. Google has been actively alerting users through in-app notifications and warnings on the app’s start page, emphasizing the need to move their data to YouTube Music or other podcast services.

To transfer subscriptions to YouTube Music, users can follow a simple process. They need to open the Google Podcasts app, access the Home tab, find the notification about the app’s closure, and click on it to export subscriptions. They will then be redirected to the YouTube Music app, where they can link their Gmail account. The podcast subscriptions will be transferred, which may take a few minutes to complete.

Users must complete the migration before April 2 to ensure uninterrupted access to their preferred podcasts.
