Mercedes Unveils All-Electric G-Class Flagship SUV.
Automobile giant Mercedes-Benz has wrapped up its much-awaited electric G-Class SUV globally. The G 580 EV retains the boxy styling fans adore with subtle EQ badging to distinguish it as an e-model.
The exterior sees body-colored headlamps, a closed grille, and cladding/spoilers for sleeker aerodynamics. Inside, the luxurious cabin offers 12.3-inch digital screens and optional rear entertainment.
At the heart lies a quad-motor all-wheel drive system, with individual electric motors powering each wheel. The Combined output is a mighty 579hp/1164Nm from its 116kWh floor-mounted battery.
Mercedes claims a range of 473km on a single charge. Its impressive acceleration of 0-100kph in 4.7 seconds is aided by fast charging—80% in 32 minutes using the 200kW DC or 11kW AC option.
Despite switching to electric, its off-road pedigree remains undiminished. Features like torque vectoring, low-range drive, and G-Turn/Steering uphold its legendary ability.
Additional details are a 57.6kg skid plate, 850mm fording, and approach/departure angles of 32/30.7 degrees. Side slope ability touches 35 degrees.
Slated for markets later this year, the G 580 EV combines iconic design, cutting-edge tech, and capabilities into a compelling electric flagship. It signifies Mercedes’ efforts to electrify nameplates while preserving characteristics valued by fans worldwide.
