Nvidia unveils new AI chips and aims to cement dominance in the fast-growing sector.
Chipmaking giant Nvidia is leaving no stone unturned to fortify its leadership position in the thriving artificial intelligence space. At its annual developers’ conference, the third-most valuable US firm unveiled a new range of hardware and software products. These include the flagship B200 “Blackwell” chip and software tools to simplify AI integration for businesses.
The event, held in person for the first time since the pandemic, drew enthusiastic crowds akin to Apple presentations of yore, observers noted. Nvidia, which draws 80% of the AI semiconductor market, is a force to reckon with.
Notable customers like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and AI labs have committed to using the new chip for cloud and neuron solutions. The software upgrades aim to increase efficiency and catalyze AI proliferation across sectors.
Further, automotive AI chips were spotlighted for in-vehicle humanoid robots, with Chinese EV manufacturers BYD and Xpeng pledging to adopt these. Nvidia is leaving no vertical untapped in its drive to dominate the AI landscape.
Since primarily offering graphics chips, strategic investments in machine learning capacities have paid off for the decades-old Silicon Valley firm at the vanguard of commercialising disruptive technologies.
While competition stiffens, the market’s exponential growth offers room for multiple stakeholders. With its scale and focus, Nvidia is best placed to drive global AI diffusion, though rivals are trying to narrow the gap.
