OpenAI reportedly developing AI-powered search to challenge Google

OpenAI is likely to announce an AI search engine to rival Google.

OpenAI, known for developing conversational AI ChatGPT, is reportedly planning to enter the online search market dominated by tech titan Google.

As per a Reuters report citing sources, the AI safety startup may unveil its corresponding search product as early as next week on May 13, exactly a day before Google’s annual developer conference.

However, OpenAI declined to confirm the speculation. A Bloomberg report earlier mentioned the new search functionality will enrich ChatGPT’s experience through internet sourcing and visual explanations.

There was long speculation that OpenAI unveiled model spec, setting ethical AI guidelinesOpenAI was eyeing the massive search vertical due to ChatGPT addressing several queries directly, challenging Google Search.

However, its caveats around inaccuracies meant cross-verifications were necessary against Google’s blue links. A small annotation in the bot also urges verifying critical information.

While search represents Google’s bastion with CEO Sundar Pichai at the helm for years, ChatGPT’s popularity as a conversational problem-solver sparked debates about it usurping the throne.

ChatGPT quickly gained a massive user base through its human-like answers to endless queries. As AI assistants proliferate, competition too mounts for OpenAI.

If launched, the new OpenAI search capability’s potential to disrupt the multi-billion dollar market through technologically advanced solutions remains closely watched.
