Tesla faces a wave of layoffs and a hiring freeze amidst restructuring efforts

Tesla, known as a pioneer in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, recently downsized and imposed a hiring ban in its main offices situated in the North American region, mostly targeting the EV sector. Last week Tesla proudly had a staff of over 140,000 employees and the same day thr job board only has three available job postings.

Hence, a set of such remaining jobs of the Tesla CAMP program are part of the manufacturing development training program, which can offer a seven-week training period and a chance to become full-time employees working as Production Associates working in Tesla factories. On the one hand, we need to consider that this slim job offerings skid contradicts the rich job opportunities that were provided until recently.

The archived page of Tesla Jobs of the past 5 months has almost 3400 listings in 4 US states, Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The most common roles were from California, Texas, and Nevada, which are the places where the company keeps the gigafactories. Curiously, according to LinkedIn, 326 job openings are currently being advertised by Telsa, most of which will be situated in China and the United Kingdom having just one.

This is the second time the employment cuts have happened in approximately two months after almost a 50% drop in open positions. CEO Elon Musk previously suggested job reductions due to unwanted duplication of work roles, an aim of making the company more efficient since the expansion necessitates the operation to function at its best.

Musk later admitted his initial error of judgment regarding which first round of layoffs took place, however he has become more pragmatic in subsequent firings, insisting on the need to be “absolutely ruthless” in that matter. He laid clear that he would demand officials resign and downsize the number of their subordinates beyond three without regarding criteria including merit and reliability.

In every regard, the repositioning at Tesla directly affected over 20,000 individuals, including the withdrawal of summer student projects and the departure of top managers. Coming to the latest round of layoffs, which have only added to the list of job cuts this year, service advisers, human resource personnel, and engineers throw a few in the list of the affected.
