Uber turns to ChatGPT to push EV adoption among drivers

Uber isn’t confining its AI to electric cars, however. The company plans to expand the assistant’s capabilities beyond electric cars by 2025.

It will eventually be able to answer a wider range of questions, thus helping the drivers more flexibly and eventually turning the tool into a precious additional asset.

Uber is using artificial intelligence and partnering with Open AI to encourage its drivers to adopt electric vehicles.

The ride-share giant unveiled its new AI assistant at the Get Zero sustainability conference in London, accompanied by several other green initiatives.

Backed by the GPT-4 model, OpenAI, the AI will guide and assist comfortable drivers in transitioning from traditional fuel-based cars to EVs.

Switching from a gas car to an electric one is only sometimes smooth, and most drivers need clarification about EVs’ costs, maintenance, and infrastructure.

Here, Uber’s new AI assistant, acting as a vehicle concierge, comes in handy.

This AI will also have answers tailored to each driver’s needs and specific circumstances, from advising on the best way to buy an EV to tips on maintaining it.

It is also packed with helpful information such as purchase prices, ways of finding charging stations, and even incentives that vary from location to location for the driver.

A driver in California might be enlightened about state rebates and tax credits, while his counterpart in New York can be informed of discounts at charging stations near where he stays.

This will help ease the complexity of switching to electric vehicles, leading to a conversation rather than a conversation.
