Cricket Legend Wasim Akram Excites Fans with Champions Trophy Appearance at Coke Studio.
In a move that has sent Pakistani cricket enthusiasts into a frenzy, legendary cricketer Wasim Akram made a surprise appearance at a Coke Studio event, brandishing the coveted ICC Champions Trophy.
Akram, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in the sport’s history, took the stage and addressed the captivated audience, expressing his high expectations for the prestigious tournament’s return to Pakistan next year.
“I would like to thank everyone. Your passion is typical Pakistani passion. This is the Champions Trophy which is happening in Pakistan,” Akram said, his words met with thunderous applause from the crowd.
The former Pakistani captain further asserted, “Pakistan is ready to host the Champions Trophy,” hinting at the country’s eagerness to welcome the global cricketing event.
However, the future of the Champions Trophy has been shrouded in uncertainty, with India’s reluctance to send its men’s team to Pakistan due to “security concerns.” In response, Pakistan has remained steadfast in its demand to host the entire tournament within its borders, rejecting the prospect of a hybrid model.
But recent reports suggest that a potential breakthrough may be on the horizon. According to sources, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reportedly reached an in-principle agreement to adopt a hybrid model for global tournaments hosted in Pakistan or India until 2027.
This model would allow both nations to play their games at ICC tournaments hosted by the other country at a neutral venue. While the PCB, the official host of the 2025 Champions Trophy, has not publicly commented on the matter, discussions are ongoing between the governing bodies.
The reported agreement was said to have been reached after meetings between the new ICC Chair, Jay Shah, and the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, in Dubai. These discussions took place alongside a courtesy board meeting arranged by Shah during his visit to the ICC headquarters.
