WhatsApp tests new feature to manage unread message count

As expected, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature for managing large lists of unread messages, which is leaving many users frustrated.

WhatsApp update tracking page WABetaInfo recently revealed that the popular instant messaging client is working on a new feature that would restore the unread message counter to zero every time the application is opened.

Even though the feature is implemented and may not be available to all beta testers at this stage, the possibility that it could ease users’ experiences has been welcomed with great interest.

The new setting was anticipated to be featured under ‘Notifications,’ it would enable the user to turn on the option ‘Clear unread when the app opens.’ This is to ensure that after enabling the feature, the notification count will be changed to zero every time the application is opened, and the user will not need to deal with each of the messages that were previously unread.

This feature could be useful for recipients of numerous messages in their work or daily life, who may be cynical due to an enormous number of messages received but not read. The ability to clear all the ongoing conversations from the app and start afresh may be of great importance regarding reducing the overall messaging experience to brief the most important conversations.

Albeit, the given feature appeals to be quite subtle, its inclusion holds the potential to enhance customer experience greatly. In solving one of the challenges, WhatsApp assures its user base that the platform is being optimized as user feedback is captured to inform its fuller development.

At the same time, users of this instant messaging app anticipate the upcoming updates of this unread message management tool, making everyone look forward to how their overall messaging experience will be enhanced when it comes out officially.
