X revamps the blocking feature and introduces subtle but impactful changes.
Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has rolled out an updated version of its blocking feature, bringing in notable tweaks.
Blocking now allows users greater control over interactions by restricting certain accounts from following, liking, replying, or directly messaging the blocking profile.
However, in a shift, blocked accounts will no longer be directly notified of being blocked but can check their status on the blocking profile page.
Additionally, posts by blocked users will not appear on timelines though mentions may still be visible if a user follows the mentioner.
Notifications from blocked profiles or unfollowed accounts mentioned in their conversations will also not be received automatically.
Users can easily toggle the block and unblock via profile pages with the latter not automatically refollowing.
X says the changes aim to balance safety with open communication, also encouraging exploring mute options.
The updated feature forms part of X’s continuous efforts to evolve interaction tools though some see the unnoticeable blocking as controversial.
