The network’s video streaming giant, YouTube, deleted 2.25 million videos from India during the fourth quarter of 2023 alone. The company recently recognized this in a report in which it claimed that these videos were removed for breaking its community standards.
The report also claims that India came first in taking out videos among 30 countries during the October to December period. After Dotage and the US, with the removals of 1,243,871 and 788,354 videos, the two countries were next. Rather than that, Iraq had the least number of videos deactivated due to this, with just 41,176 flagged for guideline violation issues.
At the global level, YouTube blocked approximately 9 million videos during the same period. What’s remarkable is that out of these videos, almost 96% were initially detected by automated algorithms. And 53.46% of the removed videos had no views; however, the rest, 27.07%, had between 1 and 10 before they were removed from the community.
In a statement, YouTube affirmed that its community guidelines are applied regardless of the low-follower uploader’s location across the world or whether the content was produced facilitated by AI. The website employs a blend of machine learning algorithms and humans who are able to apply policies and create an environment free of discrimination and intolerance for its users.
In addition to videos, YouTube claimed to have loaded over 20 million channels in Q4 2023 for violating its spam policy, including scams, misleading metadata or thumbnails, and video and comment spam. We have additionally removed more than 1.1 billion comments, and the majority of them were identified as spam. Even more imposing, the autoComment removal system detected more than 99% of the removed comments.
