Congress office in Amethi attacked, vehicles vandalized

Vehicles vandalized outside Congress office in Amethi ahead of polls.

In a shocking incident, several vehicles parked outside the Congress party office in Amethi were vandalized by unidentified miscreants late on Sunday night. According to police reports, men descended on the office premises around midnight. It went on a rampage, smashing windowpanes of dozens of vehicles. Glass shards were seen strewn around after the attackers fled.

Taking cognizance of thecomplaint lodged by Congress, police have launched an investigation to identify the culprits. However, no arrests have been made yet in this regard.

In a video shared on social media, the local unit showed the damage caused and blamed rivals for instigating violence due to impending poll defeat. They raised questions over police inaction during the chaos.

Party leaders followed with similar condemnations, calling it a desperate move in the face of changing political winds. They highlighted the area’s history and significance as a stronghold for the grand old party.

The incident comes at a crucial time ahead of Priyanka Gandhi’s campaign visit today to retain the seats held by her brother, Rahul Gandhi, and loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma.

Raebareli and Amethi constituencies will vote on May 20 in the fifth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Considering the high-stakes battle, tight security has been put in place across the turf.
