Maharashtra woman accuses gym trainer of torture, extortion

Arif solemnized Pratima’s conversion without asking her to change her name, part of a scheme in which he undervalued her property.

A married woman approached the police in Jaipur, accusing her husband of harassing her for money and threatening to divorce her if his demand was not met. The woman further mentioned that he has also been keeping aloof from and ignoring his family members’ medical needs and expenses.

The incident occurred when the woman approached the Jaipur Police Commission with a tale of alleged deceit and manipulation. The woman, Pratima Navankur, hailed from Maharashtra, had come to Jaipur in 2020 to attend an event. The sudden lockdown caught her unawares, so she stayed with a family here and joined a gym. There, she got acquainted with Arif Inayat, the gym trainer.

According to Pratima, this relationship led to her converting and finally marrying Arif. She further said that Arif had forced her into a physical relationship before marriage, which was solemnized on October 18, 2021.

While Arif facilitated Pratima’s conversion, he did not ask her to change her name, a detail Pratima would later perceive as a tactical manoeuvre. She believes this was part of a major scheme, which came into the open when Arif allegedly sold her ancestral property in Mumbai at an undervalued price and started asking her for money.

The victim, Pratima, is now fighting dengue fever. Her misery gets doubled as her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter is also ill. She says Arif has left them in this disease-stricken state and is not meeting the medical expenses.
