After a terrible mob attack was carried out recently in the Chopra, North Bengal, the Trinamool Congress government has reassured that it has no tolerance to this kind of crimes and at the same time the opposition parties have condemned the government and its police force with strong words.
Disturbance created by a video of a man parching a woman and another man in front of people has led to people anger and criticism of the Mamata Banerjee government.
Justifying the party’s stand, A TMC senior leader Dr. Santanu Sen said that the government is not supporting the incident and added that the police have lodged an FIR and arrested the main accused. He also said that TMC has ‘zero tolerance policy’ and acts immediately unlike the previous CMS government or the BJP ruled states.
But BJP and CPM, the opposition parties, accused that the main accused person has a link with the local TMC MLA, Hamidur Rahman, though he has denied his association. The MLA has said adverse things about the woman in the video, calling her ‘characterless’ while admitting that ‘the punishment was excessive.’
Several political parties have influenced the state through this issue. However, the BJP has termed the state as under Taliban rule, and on the other hand, the CPM has raised the issue vehemently, stating that the accused is also an accused in the murder of a Left leader.
While the political showdown goes on in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress does not change its position to any extent, and firmly states that it would not allow such crimes to happen.
