10 Malaysian Navy Crew Killed in Mid-air Helicopter Collision

10 military personnel dead after Malaysian Navy helicopter collision.

In a tragic incident, 10 crew members lost their lives after two Malaysian Navy helicopters collided mid-air during a rehearsal at Lumut naval base in western Perak state on Tuesday. According to a Navy statement, the incident occurred at 9.32am local time when the choppers were practising formations for an upcoming naval parade.

Footage circulating online, purportedly from the site, shows several aircraft in formation before one rotor clips the other, causing both to plummet to the ground.

Local police have verified the footage and noted that the collision occurred at the Lumut base, as the Navy stated earlier.

The loss of 10 military lives in the accident comes as a shock. Naval parades often rehearse complex aerial maneuvers, which, if gone wrong, can have serious consequences, as was witnessed in this crash.

Investigations will aim to determine the cause of the mid-air collision between the helicopters and whether any lapses led to the tragedy during the routine training sortie.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom at the naval facility and shattered many a family on the unfortunate loss of their loved ones in the line of duty
