A rave in Kasur in Pakistan’s Punjab province was raided by police, arresting 55 young people, including children of military officers and politicians. Video of the raid leaked, prompting suspensions of police.
In a dramatic twist of events, a high-profile rave party hosted at a farmhouse in Kasur district has brought Pakistan’s Punjab province into the international limelight. The local police, it is reported, had raided the party on tips about the widespread use of drugs and narcotics, but the operation backfired.
Reports show that among the 55 young people arrested were the children of military officers, security personnel, and ruling leaders. As a result, the police unit involved in the raid has been suspended, and an investigation is ongoing to find out how the video of the night was leaked on social media.
The accident took place at a luxurious farmhouse in Kasur’s Mustafabad police station area, one of the most affluent areas in Punjab. The rave party, with young men and women, had a large amount of drugs and other substances.
Based on complaints by residents and on confidential inputs, Mustafabad SHO Saqlain Khan planned the raid with his seniors’ approval. Late at night, the police party raided the farmhouse, seizing a huge quantity of drugs, liquor, and other materials, and arresting 55 individuals, most of whom were young people. By routine practice, the police videotaped the raid to record evidence.
But the scenario turned dramatic when the rave party video became viral on social media within just a few hours. The video dramatically showed the state of drunken teenagers and the seized drugs. This created chaos at Mustafabad police station, with politicians, army officials, and high-security officials calling in a flood of complaints, according to reports.
The pressure mounted to such levels that Kasur’s District Police Officer (DPO), Essa Khan, was forced to take personal action. He suspended SHO Saqlain Khan and the investigating officer as soon as he arrived at the scene, accusing them of recording and releasing the video without permission.
The detained youths were reportedly presented in court, where they were released due to insufficient evidence. Sources indicate that the youths belonged to influential families, prompting the police to avoid discussing the matter openly.
A Superintendent of Police has been posted to probe the incident, taking into account how the video was leaked and any police mistakes. The police have now admitted that the raid took place following a ‘misunderstanding’ and are claiming that the arrested youths were innocent.
